Don’t Get Comfy (Work-in-Progress)

Excerpts from a Work-in-Progress
Created at Dance Lab New York, with support from The Joyce Theater Foundation

I had been daydreaming about creating movement to the songs on Carmen Q. Rothwell’s recently released album Don’t Get Comfy / Nowhere for months when I found myself invited by Dance Lab NY to spend a week in creation as one of the four choreographers of their 2021 Female Choreographers of Color in Ballet Lab. I’m so grateful to Carmen for trusting me with her music and stories, and to Dance Lab NY for providing me the time, space and resources to explore my daydreams.

The full work will be a 25-minute ballet set to all six songs on Carmen’s album (which you can purchase here) and performed with live music for konverjdans’ Summer 2022 season in Brooklyn, NY. (Find out how you can support konverjdans’ season at konverjdans.com/support.)
